Susie (mum) was the kindest loving and most caring person I have ever known. She was always there for us. She has never been right sinse dad ( Jimmy Wood )died on 17th September 2007. She has suffered much pain and with the development of COPD and Heart Disease, life was not easy for mum.
===============================================
Susie Wood
Susie wood was born on 26th November 1941 to John and Isabella Nicholson. She was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters.
Susie is survived but her sisters, Flora, Kate, Ellen and Brother Alex who is living in Adelaide Australia.
She attended Niddrie mills primary school before moving onto Niddrie marshal Secondary school.
Susie spent most of her young life living at Hay drive in Niddrie.
Susie went to work for Mackie’s the bakers on leaving school (now we know where her love for cakes, especially chocolate éclairs came from) then went onto work as an usherette at the Palias De Dance in Fountainbridge in 1958.
This is where she met Jimmy who was playing saxophone in the big band.
Susie and jimmy married on 20th August 1960 in Craigmillar.
Their first house was at Caledonian Crescent until I was born in 1963 then moved to my nanas old flat at 2 Haddington place.
At haddington place Paul, Mark and (Steven who died at 4 weeks old in October 1969) and then Stephanie were born.
We then moved down to Prince Regent Street in Leith. We had many happy times there.
Next stop was Livingston we stayed at Ladywell and then Esk Drive in Craigshill.
It was then back to Edinburgh, Wester Hailes Park, Calder Grove before at last finally settling at Westburn Middlefield. Where she worked in ethicon, pulars with Kate and various other jobs the last job she had was a bus escort with A A coaches serving Graysmill School.
Mum had many friends, she was always loyal to them although in the last few years she lost touch, and it must have been a nightmare with all the previous house moves. The main thing for her was where ever we moved to; we were never far from her sisters. And then in recent years her sons and daughters lived close to her.
The main highlights of her life were seeing all her grand kids and great grandkids, also her love for her dog Tanya.
We as a family had for 10 years went on holiday to Crispie house in argyle, there were usually at least 18 to 20 of us. Great memories.
Mum did not have an easy life far from it but she got on with it and in recent years, the loss of her beloved Jimmy.
After jimmy died she struggled to come to terms with it but she had all of us around her.
Since then Mums health deteriorated and I don’t think we really ever knew just how bad it was as she was not one really for telling. Only when the pain was visible or if she needed to go to hospital would she reluctantly talk about it.
My own personal message to mum is – thank you for your love and kindness you and dad made it possible for us to get the house that we presently live in. Remembering the 6 months me, Gillian, Kevin, Louise and the cat lived in the back room will never be forgotten.
The whole family will always remember the regular Sunday dinners and often having to do them in sittings. Usually about 12 of us, incorporating 4 generations of the family. Also the one time you used coffee granules instead of gravy granules, when dinner was served everyone said what is this taste like coffee over the silverside and a tad runny, it was hilarious.

Hello From Heaven - by Sharon Wheeler
It's me again from Heaven
With a message from above
Feel my spirit all around you
As I sprinkle you with love...
I have watched you, as your tears flow
I have heard your silent screams
I know you sleep with visions
Of me visiting your dreams...
I have come and sat beside you
Placed my hands upon your face
Wiped away the many teardrops
I so wish I could erase...
I have watched you every day now
Seen such pain within your eyes
I just wish that there were some way
I could help you realize...
I am happy up in Heaven
In this peaceful loving place
Where I will be here waiting
To welcome you with my embrace...
You will join me here in Heaven
When your time comes you’ll see
Leave your earthly cares behind you
Travel on to where you’re free...
I have heard you ask to go now
But there is more for you to do
I promise I'll be waiting
When your time on earth is through ...
